Children in NZ Schools can get $70 per year for learning Māori.

Principals are able to pay for students through the Māori Language Program (MLP) fund which is attached to their Schools Operational Funding in their online Student Management System.

Students would then dedicate a combined total of 3 hours per school week, learning Māori online. This could be 1 hour sessions, 3 times a per week, or half an hour sessions 6 times a week, or a combination of both.

How MLP funding is accessed

Parents inform their Principal that they would like their child to access the MLP Level 4b funding.

Principals use their electronic Enrolment System to enter the number of children accessing the MLP Level 4b funding.

School receive funds.

Students, with the help of Parents and Teachers, schedule learning Māori for at least a total combined amount of 3 hours per school week.

Schools provide access to the internet and a device.
